  1. Layoffs are based on seniority in a class. Therefore, while a position may be funded through a grant and not subject to deletion, your department may still need to make budget reductions which may require layoffs. Whether you are subject to layoff depends on your seniority in the class affected by the layoff, not the funding of the position that you occupy. Seniority is determined by the date of original appointment to the class.

  2. The position would be deleted. Based on your seniority, you may be re-assigned to another position in the same classification within the department. If you do not have enough seniority in that class and have held permanent status in other classes in your department, then you may have the opportunity to demote to a former class.
